The Patterns (1818) series of Pattern Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 1 distinct entries.

History and Overview

The listing for 1818 is a private restrike from mismatched dies of 1818, restruck no earlier than the 1850s, from dies discarded from the Mint as scrap metal. No contemporary patterns are known to exist for any year after 1814 through the early 1830s.

Collecting Perspective

The sole variety listed for this year combines the obverse originally used to make 1818 quarter dollars of the Browning-2 variety with an incongruous reverse die used to make 1818 copper cents of the Newcomb-8 variety.
