The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Patterns (1795) series of Pattern Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 4 distinct entries with CPG® values between $150,000.00 and $165,000.00.

History and Overview

The pattern coins of 1795 are primarily copper strikings of silver denominations, except that the dies used were also employed for regular circulating coinage.

Collecting Perspective

Patterns of this year are for all practical purposes uncollectible, although occasional pieces appear on the market at widely spaced intervals. A possible exception is J-20, very rare and in great demand by collectors of regular copper cents, but not in the rarity league of the others. As patterns of this year were not made for numismatic purposes, most show handling or other evidence of wear.
