The Württembergische Notenbank (WNB) was founded in 1871, before German unification, as the state bank (Notenbank) of Württemberg. Its note-issuing privileges were revoked in 1935. After a series of mergers and acquisitions, Württembergische Notenbank is now Baden-Württembergische Bank (BW-Bank), headquartered in Stuttgart. In addition to the printed signatures, issued notes have a handwritten control signature in a panel at lower center front or back.
