The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the $25 Platinum Eagles, Proof (1997–2008) series of American Eagles in the U.S. Coins contains 14 distinct entries with CPG® values between $500.21 and $40,000.00.

Proof $25 platinum American Eagles were made from 1997 until 2008 at the West Point branch of the United States Mint in New York. $25 platinum eagles contain a quarter ounce of pure platinum, and while many carry premiums above spot, the earliest issues aren?t necessarily much more expensive than their uncirculated counterparts, making them quite popular with precious metals investors who want an especially nice-looking coin.

Hobbyists also enjoy adding $25 platinum eagle proofs to their collections, not just for their metal content or top-quality finish, but also because of the exquisite design on the coin. The obverse by John Mercanti displays a beautiful depiction of the Statue of Liberty, while the original reverse features a soaring American eagle designed by Thomas D. Rogers.

Adding to the numismatic allure of the $25 proof platinum eagles is that, beginning in 1998 until the end of the series, a new design was featured each year on the reverse. Additionally, collectors recognize that some $25 platinum issues are relatively scarce, including the 2004-W, 2005-W, and 2008-W proofs, which each trade at levels well above spot metal values.
