About This Series

The Chinese Soviet Republic National Bank Northwest Branch series of China Communist Banks in the World Currency contains 7 distinct entries.
These notes were issued by the Northwest Branch. Take care not to confuse them with Chinese Soviet People’s Republic National Bank Northwest Branch (B21591). The name of this issuer, as well as other text on the notes, appears on some higher denominations in the now defunct Latinxua Sin Wenz (Latinized New Script), as well as in traditional Chinese characters. This was the first romanization system used in place of Chinese characters by native Chinese speakers and was developed by groups of Chinese and Russian scholars in the USSR. For a time, shortly before and after the Communist Revolution of 1949, the system was very important in spreading literacy.
