Greysheet Catalog Details (GSID: 7462)
This popular variety, showing trace remnants of a 79 inside the 80, is reasonably common in all circulated grades and into the MS levels up to about MS63. In better grades, this piece becomes a legitimate rarity, with MS64s extremely challenging and MS65s or better appearing in the marketplace on but rare occasions. Such is usually the case with O-mint Morgans, which are tough to find in Gem grades. PLs and DMPLs are rare in any grade and virtually non-existent at the MS65 level or better.
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
