1855 Wass, Molitor & Co. 20 Dollar Gold MS Small Head, K-7 Values

Details

The 1855 Wass Molitor Small Head $20 was the first double eagle issued by the firm and accounts for virtually all known Wass Molitors of this denomination. Today, there are somewhere around 25 or 30 pieces known, the finest of which is a fully uncirculated example from an early state of the dies. Any lustrous, original specimen would qualify for the condition census. Two examples were found on the S.S. Central America.

Obverse: Small Liberty Head with short neck and W.M. & Co. on diadem 1855, 13 stars around

Reverse: Federal Eagle, ribbon reading 900 THOUS., SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA TWENTY DOL.
