The Commercial Bank of Australia (CBA) was incorporated in March 1866 and opened its first branch in Melbourne in October 1866, but did not open its Wellington branch in New Zealand until 1 October 1912, followed by Auckland (10 February 1913), Christchurch (December 1913), and Dunedin (May 1914). A total of 14 branches would be open by 1923, and grow to 200 by the time of its 1982 merger with the Bank of New South Wales.
