Greysheet & CPG® PRICE GUIDE

About South Carolina Colonial Currency

The Colony of South Carolina first issued paper money in 1703 and continued emissions until 1788. Notes from all series up until the issue of June 1, 1775 are either extremely scarce or have no known survivors. The notes that are extant can be very valuable. Perhaps the most famous series are the notes from the February 8, 1779 issue that feature elaborate engraving by Thomas Coram. There were also twelve private issues of paper money, including from the City of Charleston and the Bank of South Carolina.
