1928 Doubled Die Obverse $20 Gold MS FS-101 Values

Details

While most of the latter Saint-Gaudens $20s are rare, the situation with the 1928 Philadelphia-minted double eagle is completely different. Not only does it boast the highest mintage of any double eagle -- or any other pre-1933 United States gold coin for that matter -- but it was also saved in huge numbers. The 1928 Saint can be readily found in grades as high as MS65 and even MS66, though it becomes substantially rare higher than that. Registry set collectors vie for the relatively few pieces grading MS67 or higher, pushing prices for these coins well into five-figure territory.

up This coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $4,663.57

Obverse: Liberty is portrayed standing on a rock, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The word LIBERTY appears on the top periphery surrounded by stars. The date is stamped on the right side of the coin, just above the rock.

Reverse: A crescent sun appears at the bottom as if rising on the horizon with long rays extending to the top of the coin. A flying eagle covers the central portion, atop the rays. The words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS appear on the top periphery.
