Details

1863 Three-Cent Piece. Pattern produced to determine the feasibility of issuing a large bronze three-cent piece for circulation, this in addition to the small silver trime.

Obverse: Braided Hair cent with 13 stars surrounding, as used on large copper cents 1843–1857, but with date 1863 below.

Reverse: Small wreath enclosing 3 CENTS. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around border.
