1863 Tin Pattern Dime PR J-329 Values

Details

1863 Dime. Produced to study the feasibility of a special coin to take the place of Postage Currency bills. Many alloys and variations including as listed, plus others. The obverse die was also used in 1868 to strike J-644 and related issues. Examples are known 20 grain, 22.5 grain and 38 grain.

Obverse: Small shield at center with crossed arrows behind, wreath around most of perimeter. EXCHANGED FOR U.S. NOTES at border.

Reverse: Composed entirely of lettering with: POSTAGE CURRENCY above, ACT JULY 1862 below, with 10 CENTS 1863 at center.
