Mack C. Chase Collection of Walking Liberty Half Dollars Realizes Nearly $2.5 Million in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ 2026 Global Showcase Auction

Held in conjunction with the firm’s Summer Global Showcase Auction (an Event Auctioneer Partner of the ANA’s World’s Fair of Money), the exceptional offering of 253 lots realized $2,448,125 after a fiercely contested session. Achieving the highest price in the Mack C. Chase Collection was lot 4050, one of the finest examples of the key 1921-D. Graded MS-66 by PCGS and approved by CAC and CMQ, this coin realized a record $183,000. Also smashing prior auction records was the sole finest 1917-D with reverse mintmark, graded PCGS MS-67, that brought $122,000. (All prices include the buyer’s premium.)

Other impressive prices realized include:

Lot 4004. One of the finest graded 1916-D (PCGS) MS-67 CAC and CMQ brought a record $56,120.

Lot 4029. An exceedingly rare 1918-D in PCGS MS-66 realized $115,900.

Lot 4031. A remarkable PCGS MS-66 CAC/CMQ 1918-S brought $91,500, a record for the date.

Lot 4045. The single finest 1920-S, graded MS-67 (NGC) realized $85,400, a record for an NGC-graded coin.

Lot 4062. A beautifully toned superb gem 1929-S garnered $67,100

Lot 4143. An incredible 1940, graded MS-69 by NGC—the only one in that grade for the series—realized $39,040, a record for the date.

Lot 4200. The single finest NGC-graded 1944-D fetched $24,400, a record for an NGC-graded example.
