The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the $2.50 Classic Head Gold (1834–1839) series of Pre-1933 Gold Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 5 distinct entries with CPG® values between $601.81 and $71,500.00.
In 1834, a ribbon binding Liberty's hair, bearing the word LIBERTY, replaced the
liberty cap. The motto was omitted from the reverse. In 1840 a coronet and smaller
head were designed to conform with the appearance of the larger gold coins.
