About This Series

The Servicios Municipales series of Tangier in the World Currency contains 8 distinct entries.
Tangier was made an international zone under the joint administration of Britain, France, and Spain under an international convention signed in Paris on 18 December 1923. During World War II, Spanish troops occupied Tangier on 14 June 1940, the same day Paris fell to the Germans. The Spanish regime of Francisco Franco publicly considered the occupation a temporary wartime measure. The territory was restored to its pre-war status on 11 October 1945. The Series A and B emergency issue notes (dated August 1941 and March 1942) were issued by Servicios Municipales (Municipal Services, SM) whereas the Series C notes (dated October 1942) were issued by Junta de Servicios Municipales (JSM). All text on the notes is in Spanish.
