The East African Currency Board series of East Africa in the World Currency contains 220 distinct entries.

On 23 July 1920, the East Africa Protectorate became the British Colony and Protectorate of Kenya, named after the region’s highest mountain. Also in 1920, the East African Currency Board (EACB) was appointed by the British Secretary of State for the Colonies to provide for and to control the supply of currency to Kenya and Uganda. Its functions were subsequently extended to the Tanganyika Territory, as well as Aden (Yemen), the Somaliland Protectorate, and Zanzibar.

Previously the Board of Currency Commissioners issued the Indian silver rupee in Kenya and Uganda, while the German silver rupee was in use in Tanganyika, which was part of the German East Africa colony until the end of World War I. Based in London, the EACB was represented in East Africa by currency officers at Nairobi (for Kenya and Uganda) and Dar-es-Salaam (for the Tanganyika Territory).
