On 10 October 1868, a Cuban plantation owner, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, declared La Republica de Cuba (The Republic of Cuba, RDC) independent from Spain, starting the Ten Years’ War.

This revolutionary group is not to be confused with the official Republica de Cuba which issued notes beginning in 1934 (B401 - B408).
