At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Belgian, British, and French troops invaded and occupied the German colony of Kamerun. Following Germany’s defeat, on 20 July 1922 the Treaty of Versailles divided the territory into two League of Nations mandates (Class B) under the administration of France and Great Britain.
