Всесоюзное объединение “Внешпосылторг” (Vneshposyltorg, VPT; literally All-Union Association “Foreign Mail Order Trade”) was established by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics by an order of 19 May 1961. Vneshposyltorg also ran “VPT shops” in the USSR, where goods and services were provided in exchange for foreign exchange notes. These shops bought Western goods abroad and sold them retail.
