The 1979-S Type 1 proof exhibits a blobby-looking S mintmark and is the most common type of 1979-S proof Lincoln cent. Later in 1979, the mintmark was retooled to provide a much clearer-looking S and is denoted as the 1979-S Type 2 proof. The 1979-S Type 2 proof cent is a very scarce variety and is sought-after by collectors.
Obverse Description
Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portait and the date postioned on the right side.
Reverse Description
Lincoln memorial building centered with words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on top and bottom periphery. E PLURIBUS UNUM centered above the top of the memorial.
