1936 Doubled Die Obverse, Type 1 One Cent MS RD FS-101 Values

Details

The 1936 Type 1 doubled die obverse Lincoln cent is a variety with dramatic doubling visible to the naked eye. The doubling is exhibited in the date and inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. It is believed that fewer than 300 examples exist, making this coin much rarer than the far more popular 1955 doubled die (which has more than 10,000 survivors) and is more on par in scarcity with the 1917 doubled die obverse. This coin is rare in all conditions, including circulated grades and also Red Mint State levels.

Obverse: Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portrait and the date and mintmark (If any) positioned on the right side.

Reverse: Wheat ears flanking the words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter.
