J-180 is the famous and popular “1856 Flying Eagle cent” widely collected transitional pattern, listed in A Guide Book of United States Coins, and of commanding importance to generations of numismatists. Examples exist in all grades. Die varieties exist and have been described by Richard Snow in his text on Flying Eagle cents.

Obverse: Eagle flying left, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above, 1856 below.

Reverse: “Agricultural wreath” enclosing ONE CENT, the design used for regular-issue Flying Eagle cents in 1857 and 1858.
