(1849) J.S. Ormsby 10 Dollar Gold MS K-2 Values

Details

Five examples of the J.S. Ormsby $10 can be traced today; one of which is permanently impounded at the Smithsonian Institution, while a second was stolen from Willis Dupont in 1967 and has yet to be recovered. The three remaining examples are graded XF or AU. The Ormsby coins are among the most primitive of all pioneer gold coins, with areas of strike weakness visible on every specimen. The dies are similarly rustic, showing strong doubling in the “O” of “DOLLS”.
