Silver Proof Coins Mark Accession of Grand Duke Guillaume V

 The Banque Centrale du Luxembourg releases new silver coins on the occasion of the accession of the country’s seventh sovereign. The changeover of Grand Dukes occurred on the 3rd October 2025 which also saw the nation observe the 25th anniversary of accession of Grand Duke Henri when he succeeded his father, the popular Grand Duke Jean on the 7th October 2000 after a 36 year reign.

Grand Duke Guillaume V succeeded his father Grand Duke Henri upon his abdication in favour of his eldest son Hereditary Prince William.

The tradition of abdication was established during the reign of Grand Duchess Charlotte (1896 – 1985) who abdicated her throne in favour of her eldest son in 1964 after leading her country for 45 years – the longest tenure in the country’s history. Prince Guillaume was born on the 11th November 1981 in Luxembourg City and is the eldest child of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and his wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. Guillaume has four younger siblings, three brothers and one sister. He married Belgian Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy on the 20th October 2012, at Luxembourg City’s Notre-Dame Cathedral. Upon her marriage to the Hereditary Grand Duke, Stephanie became Her Royal Highness, the Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. In October 2024, Grand Duke Henri announced during his official birthday speech that Prince Guillaume had been appointed as lieutenant representative, assuming a number of his father's constitutional powers in preparation for his eventual accession.

The ceremony of accession took place immediately after the signing of the document of abdication by Grand Duke Henri in the chamber of deputies in the country’s capital, Luxembourg City. After which, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume took the oath of office during his investiture ceremony and became the country’s 7th sovereign.

The silver Proof quality coins are produced by the Royal Dutch Mint at their facilities in Houten, Netherlands on behalf of the Banque Centrale de Luxembourg. Designed by Chiara Principe, the reverse recreates a photo image of the new Grand Duke and his young family. On the left is His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke Guillaume V with his arm raised, and his son, HRH Prince Charles. On the right is the Grand Duke's wife, HRH the Grand Duchess Stéphanie holding their son, HRH Prince François. The Grand Ducal family are depicted with a decorative rosette ornament placed below which includes an image of the royal crest and the denomination 25 EURO. The image is surrounded by the names CHARLES • GUILLAUME • STÉPHANIE • FRANÇOIS and above the figures is the date of the Grand Duke’s accession 3. 10. 2025. The obverse depicts a stylised effigy of the new Grand Duke Guillaume V shown centred with a jacket and tie. As coins depicted the previous Grand Duke’s effigy facing right, the new Grand Duke faces to the left. Partially superimposed over the lower portion of the effigy is the text LËTZEBUERG and the year of issue, 2026. The artist’s initials A.H. (Helmut Andexlinger) appear just below the Grand Duke’s tie.

Monaco – Monnaie de Paris

Commemorative €2 Coins Feature Historic Title of the Sovereign Prince

 Monaco’s Trésorerie Générale du Gouvernement Princier unveils the third commemorative coin as part of their Princely Titles and Honours series launched last year. The Sovereign Princes of Monaco hold the most number of titles and honours as a reigning monarch within the ten kingdoms of Europe.

One title, one of the oldest in Monaco, is the Duke of Valentinois, the result of the Treaty of Péronne signed on the 14th September 1641 which marked the transition of the Principality of Monaco from Spanish protection to an alliance with France. The title has remained with the reigning Sovereign Prince and it is currently held by HSH Prince Albert II, the most recent member of the Grimaldi family which has ruled Monaco for eight centuries, making them Europe's longest-ruling royal family.

The new €2 commemorative Proof quality coins are produced by the Monnaie de Paris on behalf of the Trésorerie Générale des Finances and designed by chief engraver and artisan Joaquín Jimenez. The obverse of the coin depicts the bell tower of the Collegiate Church of Sainte-Croix in Montélimar, the principal city of the duchy. In the background, alongside the silver and red lozenges of the Grimaldi arms, appears an orb and cross taken from the coat of arms of Montélimar, also recalling the mark of its 16th-century mint. Below the primary design is the text DUCHÉ DE VALENTINOIS and along the inner circle of the design to the right is the additional text MONACO. The year of issue, 2026 is shown near the left along with the mintmarks of the Mint of Paris and insignia of the coin’s designer. The overall design is surrounded by 12 five-pointed stars representing the European Union. The reverse design is that of a standard €2 coin, found throughout all countries of the euro zone. The face value of €2 appears in front of a map of Europe. 

Each Proof-quality coin is encapsulated and presented in a genuine red leather custom case with the crest of the Duchy of Valentinois applied in gold foil on the top cover and includes a certificate of authenticity. United Kingdom – The Royal Mint

Silver and Gold Proof Coin Collection Marks 15 Years of Game of Thrones

Fifteen years ago, the world was introduced to dragons, dire wolves, and the immortal warning that ‘winter is coming’ and sparking interest in one of the most talked-about fantasy series of all time.

 Now,The Royal Mint will launch two new collector coins featuring designs highlighting the blockbuster TV series. Game of Thrones first aired in April 2011. Adapted from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the show attracted a global audience of over 40 million viewers per episode by its final season and won 59 Emmy awards. The popular show became available in over 170 countries.

The series was predominantly filmed at production studios in Northern Ireland and became such a worldwide phenomenon that Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by Prince Philip, was invited to visit the Game of Thrones film sets at Belfast's Titanic Studios in June 2014. The Queen explored the armoury, costume hangars, and the sets used for icy landscapes and interior scenes. During the tour, the Queen politely declined an offer to sit upon the iconic Iron Throne, admiring it closely but adhering to the custom of avoiding occupying a foreign or, in the case of Game of Thrones, a fictional throne.

Crafted in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP), the two-coin collection is designed by Ffion Rees and built around the elemental duality that defines Game of Thrones - Ice and Fire. 

Ice - The reverse depicts a detailed image of the Night King placed off-centre to the left and up close, his icy blue eyes are shown in vivid colour on both the BU base metal and sterling silver Proof pieces. To the right is his personal insignia, the metal pin worn on the Night King's armour and just below the pin is the familiar Game of Thrones logo. 

Fire - The reverse is ingrained in the very fabric of House Targaryen by featuring an intricately detailed image of one of Daenery’s dragons off-centred to the left, the dragon’s blood red eyes are shown in vivid colour on both the BU base metal and sterling silver Proof pieces along with splashes of red fire behind. To the right is the distinctive House Targaryen insignia depicting three dragon heads sharing one body. Above the insignia is the familiar Game of Thrones logo. 

The obverse of both coins includes the effigy of King Charles III created by engraver Martin Jennings. The denomination 50 PENCE and the year of issue, 2026 is shown as part of the legend surrounding the King’s likeness.

Both versions of the 50 Pence BU cupro-nickel coins are housed in a blister-pak type folder with informative text and illustrations. The sterling silver 50 pence Proof versions are presented in a custom Perspex Lucite frame case accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The gold Proof coins are encapsulated and presented in polished gloss wood cases accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
