George Washington died on December 14, 1799. These medals were coined early in 1800 to be worn at his Civic Funeral Procession held on February 22 in Boston.
Obverse Description
The obverse carries a uniformed bust of Washington encircled by the fitting inscription HE IS IN HIS GLORY, THE WORLD IN TEARS.
Reverse Description
The reverse displays a funeral urn with the inscribed initials GW.
