About This Series

The Banka Provizore e Republikës së Kosovës (Kosovo Republic Bank Commission) series of Kosovo in the World Currency contains 14 distinct entries.
The post-World War II Yugoslav constitution established the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija within the Yugoslav constituent republic of Serbia. On 2 July 1990, a majority of members of the Kosovo Assembly passed a resolution declaring the Republic of Kosovo within the Yugoslav Federation; in September 1991 (after the dissolution of the Assembly by Serbia) they passed a constitution which would have given the republic effective sovereignty; in September 1992 they declared the republic a sovereign and independent state. However, long-term severe ethnic tensions between Kosovo’s Albanian and Serb populations left Kosovo ethnically divided, resulting in inter-ethnic violence, including the Kosovo War which started on 28 February 1998.
