ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ

With King George II of Greece exiled to London during World War II, the country was ruled by a collaborist government sympathetic to the Axis powers. Careful to remove any association with the monarchy, the country was known as the Ελληνικη Πολιτεια (Hellenic State, THS) during this period with a puppet government. This name mirrors the first modern name of the country from 1828 - 1832 and the brief period in 1924 during the formation of the Hellenic Republic. This third Hellenic State collapsed in 1944 and the monarchy was restored.
