The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Institut d’Émission des Comores series of Comoros in the World Currency contains 7 distinct entries with CPG® values between $2.00 and $425.00.
The Institut d’Émission des Comores (Issuing Institute of Comoros, IEC) was founded on 31 December 1974. On 1 June 1975, the Institut d’Émission des Comores assumed the privilege of issuing banknotes and coins from the Banque de Madagascar et des Comores.
On 6 July 1975, the Comorian parliament passed an unilateral resolution declaring independence from France, despite the opposition of the majority on the island of Mayotte. The French administration ultimately recognized Comorian independence and severed its colonial links on the three western islands, but Mayotte remained under French control and did not adopt the currency of the Institut d’Émission des Comores.
