Private banks lost the right to issue notes with the establishment of the Caja de Conversión (Conversion Fund, CDC) pursuant to Law 2741 of 7 October 1890 aimed at stabilizing the currency. In October 1891, the Banco de la Nación Argentina (Bank of the Argentine Nation) was created as a state bank, but issuance remained in the hands of the Caja de Conversión.
