About Timor
Located south of Indonesia and north of Australia, Timor is an island currently divided between the sovereign states of East Timor (officially the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste) in the east, and Indonesia in the west. While the Dutch colonized the western half of the island, East Timor was colonized by Portugal in 1769, and was known as Portuguese Timor until 1975.
