About Sri Lanka

In 1972, Ceylon became a republic and the official name of the country was changed to “Free, Sovereign and Independent Republic of Sri Lanka.” Nonetheless, the banknotes continued to bear the name of the Central Bank of Ceylon until 1985. For notes issued prior to 1985, see Ceylon.
