1936 Dot One Cent MS RD Values

Details

Red surfaces. The most famous Canadian Small Cent is the 1936 "Dot" variety. The year 1936 was to be the final year of the King George V coinage and 1937 was intended to introduce the coinage of King Edward VIII. Due to the latter’s abdication a coin shortage occurred, so 1936-dated minor coinage were struck in 1937. These 1937 struck coins were identified by a very small dot on the reverse die. Only three examples of the Dot variety cent are known. Remarkably, all three examples were once owned simultaneously by famed collector John Jay Pittman.
