The 1970-Mo 20 Centavos is part of a series of Coinage Reform of 1905 coins struck from 1955-1971. The specific variety is Type 6, New Eagle. Struck in Mexico City and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 0.95 copper, 0.05 zinc from a mintage of 7,628,700 struck.
Obverse: Above a spray of oak and laurel, the national coat of arms depicting the eagle in profile to the left, with stylized, leaf-like feathers and very large feet. Above, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse: At the center, the Pyramid of the Sun, with the location TEOTIHUACAN engraved at the base and, in the background, the volcanoes Ixtaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. At the top, a small radiant liberty cap; on the radiance, divided by the cap, an outlined number 20. Below the radiance, the mintmark M. At the bottom, in two lines and flanked by a saguaro cactus (left) and a nopal cactus (right), CENTAVOS and the date.
