Obverse: Above a spray of oak and laurel, the national coat of arms depicting the eagle in profile to the left, with thick, detailed, evenly spaced feathers and large, fleshy feet. Above, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse: At the center, a large number 5 shaded in a basket-weave pattern, with CENTAVOS below and the date above. Between the date and the 5, the mintmark M. Surrounding all, a broad, elaborate border depicting the Ring of Splendor on the Aztec Calendar Stone.
