The Sixty-Sixth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the IDB and the Fortieth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of IDB Invest was held in the city of Luque – Greater Asunción, Paraguay, from March 11th to 14th 2026. The last time Paraguay hosted this summit was for the 58th annual meeting in 2017.
Since its founding in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank – IDB has been the main source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the idea of a regional development institution for Latin America first emerged in the 19th century. In 1844, Argentine statesman Juan Bautista Alberdi proposed a Pan-American bank in his thesis at the University of Chile. But it wasn’t until the early 20th century that the idea began to take shape. The formation of the IDB came about on the initiative of Brazilian President Juscelino Kubitschek and the Organization of American States - OAS to foster greater cooperation to address the region’s pressing development needs.
The IDB is dedicated to improving the quality of life for millions of people in the 26 borrowing member countries across Latin America and the Caribbean providing financial and technical support to national and subnational governments and other entities in the region. The IDB also conducts cutting-edge research and develop innovative solutions to address development challenges. Headquartered in Washington, D.C. the IDB have offices in all 26 borrowing member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as regional offices in Asia and Europe. IDB member countries include 26 borrowing members in Latin America and the Caribbean and 22 non-borrowing members in Asia, Europe, and North America.

The proof quality coins are produced by the FNMT – Real Casa de la Moneda at their facilities in Madrid on behalf of the Banco Central del Paraguay. The obverse side of the proof and colour coins includes the official logo for the IDB Board of Governor’s meeting centred. The logo depicts a stylised hummingbird along with the text BID|BID INVEST 2026 - PARAGUAY - REUNIONES ANUALES DE LAS - ASAMBLEAS DE GOBERNADORES. The design is surrounded with crescent-shaped designs placed along the rim. The reverse side depicts the Paraguayan coat of arms consisting of a single five-pointed star centred flanked with a palm branch to the left and an olive branch to the right. Above and along the upper rim is the text REPÚBLICA DEL PARAGUAY and below the crest is the denomination and year, UN GUARANÍ-2026.
