Rarities across the spectrum of American coinage are set to cross the auction block.
A fascinating and unique rarity created when a single proof 1851 dollar was struck over a previously-struck 1851-O Seated dollar. The previously features of the 1851 were mostly obliterated during the second strike, but the remains of the O mint mark are still faint but clear, thus creating a unique, rare coin.
Obverse Description
Lady Liberty is seated on a rock bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY. 13 stars appear on the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom middle.
Reverse Description
The heraldic eagle is centered in the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOL. around the periphery. The mint mark appears very faintly under the eagle.
