Greysheet Catalog Details (GSID: 11702)

The 1850 10 Dollar Gold is part of a series of Pioneer & Territorial Gold coins struck from 1850-51. The specific variety is Baldwin. Struck in San Francisco and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of Gold from a mintage of 20-25 known struck and has a rarity rating of 6.
Baldwin’s earliest issue, the “Vaquero” or “Horseman” $10, is widely considered a masterpiece by collectors of pioneer gold coins. It was designed in early 1850 by Albrecht Kuner, originally for use by Kohler & Company whose equipment the firm purchased in March of 1850. Somewhere between 20 and 25 examples exist in private hands, with the finest known being a near gem BU. A handful of pieces are known in mint state, and any of these would probably merit inclusion in the condition census. The Baldwin Horseman’s design is the last privately minted California gold coin whose design is not loosely based upon a U.S. federal gold coin. The Horseman $10s edge is coarsely reeded, and appears to match the Miners’ Bank $10s, struck by Baldwin’s predecessor, Kohler & Company.

About CDN Prices

All CDN prices are based on proprietary market knowledge and technology developed by CDN Publishing, LLC.

CPG® prices represent retail levels. Collectors should refer to CPG values as a starting place for their negotiations, or auction bid reference.

Greysheet/Greensheet prices are wholesale market levels for collectible coins/paper money intended to indicate what a dealer, or wholesale, buyer would pay for the described item in the specified grade. Greysheet/Greensheet represent "sight-seen" values based on a buyer's in-hand review. The actual value can be more or less than this depending on factors including eye appeal and market timing.

Bluesheet (NGC & PCGS) prices represent the highest sight-unseen offers to buy on dealer networks like CDN Exchange. In many cases, there are no active sight-unseen buy offers, so CDN looks to the recent lowest market values for such an item. For this reason, Bluesheet values typically represent the floor of the market for the specified item. CDN only tracks Bluesheet on certain items.

CAC prices are for U.S. coins that meet the standards of the Certified Acceptance Corporation. You can learn more about CAC on their web site.
