All of the 1817 punctuated date varieties are Overton 103 (O-103). On the O-103 variety, the die struck coins with a small indentation, leading to "dot" between the 181 and 7 in the date. While dramatic and easy to see with the naked eye, this variety is relatively common. Rarity ratings provided courtesy of the Bust Half Nut Club Rarity Ratings Committee as published in their 2020 BHNC study report.

Obverse Description

Portrait of Liberty facing left with a cap and the word LIBERTY on a ribbon above her brow. 7 stars on the left periphery and 6 stars on the right side represent the original 13 colonies. The date appears centered at the bottom.

Reverse Description

An heraldic eagle holding olive branches and 3 arrows in its claws is surrounded by the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. A ribbon below bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The denomination of 50C is centered below the eagle.
