The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Bank of Chosen series of Korea in the World Currency contains 97 distinct entries with CPG® values between $2.00 and $1,000.00.
In August 1910, Korea was annexed by Japan. Rather than allowing Japanese currency to circulate on the peninsula, in February 1911 the Bank of Korea was renamed the Bank of Chosen (Chosen being the Japanese name, at that time, for Korea) and began issuing banknotes payable in gold to the bearer on demand. All Bank of Chosen (BOC) notes were also exchangeable at par with Japanese yen.
Until 1932, as a matter of Japanese government policy, Bank of Chosen notes also circulated in Manchuria, China.
