About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Half Dollars, Proof series of Coin Rolls in the U.S. Coins contains 2 distinct entries with CPG® values between $80.00 and $370.00.
Proof rolls of half dollars contain 20 uncirculated specimens of the same date and mintmark, all grading at least MS60. A roll of uncirculated half dollar may be either an original bank-wrapped item or a roll of coins assembled in an aftermarket tube by another dealer or coin collector. An aftermarket roll of uncirculated half dollars must meet some obvious requirements: that the roll contain 20 coins of the same date and mintmark, and each of the coins must grade at least MS60.

A typical uncirculated roll generally contains coins ranging from MS60 to about MS63, though many rolls contain pleasant surprises, such as the occasional premium gem specimen, supergrade piece, or a scarce variety or error. Spotting such pieces takes skill, and surprisingly even aftermarket, or put-together, rolls often contain such nice coins that manage to slip by the eyes of the person who assembled the role. The typical key purpose of buying an uncirculated roll of half dollars is either to scope out the coins within for cherrypicking opportunities or buy the coins as a bulk lot and parcel them out as singles to be sold individually or used in building multiple sets.
