On 14 March 1893, the Legislative Assembly granted a 25-year concession to Enrique de Linares for the establishment of a new commercial bank to be called the Banco Nacional del Salvador, but it never passed the project stage.

On 11 April 1906, another Banco Nacional del Salvador (National Bank of El Salvador) was founded in San Salvador with a capital of 200,000 pesos.
