These quarter ounce platinum coins carry an obverse design by John Mercanti depicting a closeup of the Statue of Liberty?s head and crown, while the original reverse designed by Thomas D. Rogers carries the likeness of a flying American eagle. From 1998 through 2008, a new reverse design was employed each year on the proofs while the original Rogers design continued on uncirculated specimens for the duration of the series? run.
