About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the $10 Modern Commems, Proof series of Commemoratives in the U.S. Coins contains 8 distinct entries with CPG® values between $900.00 and $2,050.00.
The 1984-W $10 gold commemorative honoring the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles became the first gold coin issued by the United States Mint since 1933, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102, which ended production of gold coinage in the United States. Another interesting piece of trivia concerning the $10 Olympic gold coin is that it became the first United States coin to bear the ?W? mintmark of the West Point, New York United States branch mint.

Relatively few $10 gold commemorative coins have been issued since 1984. Among those that have been struck are the 2000-W bimetallic (gold and platinum) $10 gold coin and 2003 First Flight Centennial $10 gold coin. All modern $10 gold commemoratives are popular collectibles. Certified $10 gold commemoratives grading MS70 or PR70 sell well, as do spotless pieces in original government packaging.
