About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Sächsische Bank zu Dresden series of Germany in the World Currency contains 38 distinct entries with CPG® values between $1.00 and $110.00.
Before German unification, Saxony had its own state bank (Notenbank) and state currency, which was was replaced by the mark upon unification. The former Notenbank had its note-issuing privileges curtailed until, by 1906, only four were still issuing banknotes. Sächsische Bank zu Dresden (SBD), founded in 1865, was one of these. Its note-issuing privileges were revoked in 1935. After the German surrender in 1945, Dresden became part of the Soviet Zone and in 1947 the bank and all its assets were liquidated.
