About 2-Cent Pieces
Many people do not realize the the United States Mint issues coins in the two-cent denomination. Struck in copper alloy, the "experiment" of 2-cent pieces lasted from 1864-1872 for circulation issues. A final issue was struck in 1873 in proof formal only. The coins are affordable in lower grades as they were heavily circulated and are widely collected as the sets are short and achievable without a large financial or time commitment.
