Obverse: On the alpaca (German silver) center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the bronze-aluminum outer ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.
Reverse: To the left of center, a bust of Mexican poet and Nobel Laureate Octavio Paz in three-quarter profile to the right, with hand to chin. In the field to the right of the bust, Premio Nobel de / Literatura / 1990. At the top of the outer ring, $20 with OCTAVIO PAZ immediately below; at the bottom, near the inner edge and reading counterclockwise, a famous verse by the poet: Todo es presencia, todos los siglos  son esta Presente (“Everything is presence, all the centuries are this Presence”). Below the verse, VEINTE PESOS. At upper left, 2010; at upper right, the mintmark M.
