Obverse: On the silver center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the bronze-aluminum outer ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.
Reverse: On the outer ring, the denomination N$20 at the top with an open wreath of laurel below. At the center, the head of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in profile to the left. To the right of the portrait, the mintmark M above the date; below the neck of the portrait, HIDALGO.
