Spain. Gold and Silver Proof Coins Mark UEFA European Football Championships in 2026
Spain's Real Casa de la Moneda release gold and silver coins in support of Spain’s national Football team.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association – otherwise known as FIFA is the sport's global governing body are also the organisers of the World Cup which is held every four years. The tournament has been played a total of 22 times since the first in 1930 and has been won by eight national teams during this time frame. It is expected that the Spanish national team will be participating in the FIFA World Cup next summer.
In 2026, FIFA stages their 23rd World Cup, the quadrennial international men's football or, soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from the 11th June to the 9th July 2026 and will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries. The main host country of matches is the United States, while Canada and Mexico will be the auxiliary hosts. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be hosted by more than one nation and the first hosted by three nations simultaneously. There is expected to be greater celebration and interest in the United States as the competition will also occur during the 250th anniversary of US independence. The 2026 tournament will also be the first to include 48 teams, expanded from 32 with Argentina as the defending champion, having won its third title in 2022. Ultimately, out of these 48 national teams, just 16 UEFA nations will qualify to compete in the 2026 World Cup.
Spain is among one of the eight countries ever to have won the FIFA World Cup, doing so in South Africa in 2010, the first time the team had reached the final after their victory against the Dutch team. The national team have participated in a total of 16 out of 22 FIFA World Cups, and qualifying consistently since 1978. The Spanish national team will compete in Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers alongside Türkiye, Bulgaria and Georgia. These national teams will begin competing against each other during home and away-games from September to November 2025. The group winner will qualify directly for the World Cup finals, while the runner-up will advance to the second round or, play-offs.

10 Euro – Silver. The reverse features a soccer player in motion on the field. On the right side is a detail or pattern of the official branding and below, the tournament logo. Along the left and upper rim is the inscription COPA MUNDIAL DE LA FIFA 26™. The denomination 10 EURO is shown near the lower left side and to the right near the border is the crowned M mintmark denoting the Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid.
100 Euro – Gold. The reverse side depicts an action image of a goalkeeper stopping a ball represented by a globe. Just above the goalkeeper is a portion of the FIFA logo and branding design with the FIFA trophy logo shown near the right edge. Along the left rim is the inscription COPA MUNDIAL DE LA FIFA 26™ with the crowned M mintmark denoting the Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid placed just above the globe. The denomination 100 EURO is shown below the goalkeeper.
On the obverse side of both gold and silver coins, the effigy of HM King Felipe VI created by engraver Luis Jose Diaz Salas introduced in 2024. The King is portrayed facing left with the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA placed above his likeness with the year of issue 2025 placed below.
