Isle of Man. Treasury Unveils Their 2025 Angel and Noble Gold and Silver Proof Coins
The Government & Treasury of the Isle of Man unveil their annual range of gold and silver collector coins.
The familiar designs embody the heritage of the Isle of Man, connecting collectors and investors to a rich tradition that spans centuries. For 2025, the range includes gold and silver Angels and Nobles offered in sizes from one-tenth to one ounce gold and half-ounce to one kilogram silver. The coins are produced by the Tower Mint at their facilities in London on behalf of the Treasury of the Isle of Man Government.

The Angel coin was first released by King Edward IV in 1470 as an English Gold Coin, and derives its name from its classical design motif featuring the Archangel Michael slaying the dragon. For centuries British Kings and Queens awarded Angel coins to worthy subjects, giving the Angel coin a reputation that to receive one would bring luck and good fortune to its recipients, some believing they could cure sickness and even save lives. Reintroduced by the Isle of Man Government in 1984, originally as gold and silver bullion coins, the Angel or ‘Manx Angel’ as it has become more commonly known, is one of the world’s most recognised modern coin issues. Winning awards such as the Coin of the Year from day one, the Angel coins are one of the world’s most sought-after gold and silver coin collections.
The reverse side of 2025 Angel gold and silver collection features the original design of the Archangel Michael facing left and slaying the dragon which first featured on the Isle of Man Angel coins in 1984. This classical depiction of the triumph of good over evil which gave the Angel coin its name almost 600 years ago and celebrates over 40 years since its first release. The primary design is surrounded by a patterned border of Celtic intertwined or connected knots of three loops known as a Trinity Knot. The distinctive Triskelis shield of the Isle of Man is shown at the top along the rim and the text ANGEL along with the coin’s specifications are placed near the lower border.

The Noble coin, though originating in medieval England, draws connections to Viking heritage through its maritime symbolism and role in European trade. The Vikings, known for their seafaring prowess and extensive trade networks across Europe, established a legacy that resonated in the iconography of later coins like the Noble. By depicting the English king standing on a ship, the Noble coin symbolized not only England’s naval power but also a cultural and economic connection to the Viking Age, when maritime strength and trade were central to wealth and influence. A similar design of a sailing ship from the Viking era was adopted on a flag to represent the parliament, the Tynwald which is over one thousand years old. The flag with its deep blue field and golden-coloured ship centred was first flown from flagpoles on the processional way to Tynwald Hill on Tynwald Day and outside the Legislative Buildings in Douglas in 1971. The reverse side depicts a Viking-era ship highlighting Norse mythology, centred and resplendent with full mast and sails with the forward bow intricately decorated with a dragonhead. Overhead are seagulls with the primary design surrounded by a patterned border of Celtic intertwined or connected knots of three loops known as a Trinity Knot. The distinctive Triskelis shield of the Isle of Man is shown at the top along the rim and the text NOBLE along with the coin’s specifications are placed near the lower border.
Each gold and silver coin in all sizes includes an effigy of HM King Charles III designed by engraver Glyn Davies. The legend surrounding the portrait reads CHARLES III · ISLE OF MAN the year of issue, 2025 is placed below the King’s likeness. A specially presented two-coin set consisting of a proof and reverse proof silver Angel and Noble is offered in limited quantities.
