Free Educational Webinars Provided During National Coin Week, April 20-26

National Coin Week, April 20-26, 2025, is a prime time to introduce the public to the joys of coin collecting. Whether a new or seasoned collector, there is something for everyone during National Coin Week. Organized by the American Numismatic Association (ANA), the celebratory week is filled with opportunities to win prizes, get involved with collecting clubs, and participate in free educational webinars. 

Starting Monday, April 21, NumismaTalks courses are scheduled every weekday through National Coin Week. These talks will focus on this year's National Coin Week theme, "Iconic Change: Pop Culture & Coins Unite!" Courses start at 12 p.m. MT and include: 

Liberty's Trappings: American Values on Coinage 1792-1947
April 21, presented by Russ Bega

This webinar explores the ever changing and evolving personification of Liberty on American coinage and the values, norms, and mores that were reflected on circulating U.S. coinage before the era of "dead Presidents" on money.

The Search for Meaning in 21st Century Coin Design
April 22, presented by Donald Scarinci

Examine the artistic use of pop culture on world coins. Objectives of the American Liberty gold coin program and the upcoming use of comic art on United States coins will be discussed. These programs will be placed in the context of contemporary world coins that draw upon images from fables, folktales, food, and commercial products. Those appealing world coins that draw upon national cultural icons have more artistic support and merit than most people think.

Pop(ulist) Art – The Fight Over the Soul of Money in America as Reflected in Art From 1870-1900

This presentation will show how the artists of the period (1870-1900) used money as their subject, and what the public (and the government) had to say. As might be expected, fights over money would make an impression on popular culture.
